Dhow Excursions
Sail away in the late afternoon in our comfortable dhow and watch the sunset and moon-rise over the water. If you’re feeling peckish, we can find a secluded spot and serve a sumptuous dinner on the dhow.
If you’re keen for more activity, you can take the dhow through mangrove forests to Manda Toto island this secluded for a day of snorkelling, swimming and an excellent beach picnic.
Deep Sea Fishing
Grab an opportunity to fish from a Swahili dhow just as Lamus’ first settlers did hundred of years ago. Watch the sunrise as dolphins, sea turtles and the occasional sailfish or marlin swim past. During these fishing excursions, you can catch game fish such as tuna, wahoo, dorado, marlin, sailfish and kingfish.
Swahili Dinner & Cooking Classes
Lamu is home to a variety of flavours and spices. The traditional Swahili dinner offers our guests the opportunity to enjoy a meal especially prepared by cooks from Lamu island. If you are interested, you can join our swahili dinner every friday in our beautiful garden, you may also take a Swahili cooking class and dine with the locals!
Swim in Mangrove
Join us for a swim the the Mangroves of Lamu Island. The channel is home to a lush mangrove forest and a wide diversity of birds and animals. Let the current guide you through the Mangroves as you enjoy a truly unique experience.
Explore Lamu
Lamu Old Town clings fast to its roots and wandering through the maze of stone houses, alleyways and markets is like being transported back in time. Your guide will walk you through Lamu Town and take you to meet spectacular Swahili artisans, visit the old fort and museum, shop for spices at the markets and have lunch at the seafront hotels.
Dhow Dinner
Enjoy an afternoon out on the water as you watch the sunset. Eat Drink and Laugh while the crew prepare a delicious swahili meal for you on board. You will dine under the stars having your meal in a setting you wont soon forget.
Donkey Ride
Hop on one of Lamu's many donkey as you tour the streets or beach of Shella. Experience Lamu through the eyes of its oldest inhabitant.
Walk Shela's Dunes
It’s no surprise that most people think Shela has one of Africa’s best beaches. This stretch of pristine beach and adjoining sand dunes goes on for 12 kilometres and is perfect for sunset or early morning beach walks.
Learn to Sail
Learn the ancient art of Swahili sailing from seasoned sailors from Lamu. Banana House has a beautiful Swahili dhow, Halinisi, that is perfect for novice sailors.
